Risk Management Principles and Practices is a module of the Associate in Risk Management (ARM) Designation. This certificate provides students with a broad understanding of risk management and the risk management process.

Goals

The course starts with an enterprise-wide persepective of risk applying risk management concepts to four major categories of risk : hazard, operational, financial and strategic. Risk identification and analysis tools and techniques are discussed in detail. The text describes as wellt he ISO 31000 Risk Management-Principles and Guidelines and the COSO Enterprise Risk Management-Integrated Framework. The last part of the course emphasizes financial risk, risk oversight, monitoring and assurance from the perspective of governance and internal control.

Timeframe

Around 6 to 10 hours per week are recommended for this training. This timeframe is depending on your experience in the fields and your previous studies. Prepare yourself to invest 4-6 hours for the prereading and getting familiar with the topics for each chapter (by reading the according assignment online and in the text book which contains about 20 pages per chapter). Approx. 2 hours for your personal summary per chapter. It is also recommended reworking each assignment and its exercises online. Inspire yourself by reading the extra material shared in an extra section online.
Before starting, please be aware to carefully schedule the 4 month period per module so that you have enough time alongside your vocational and personal activities.

Course material

Study material consisting of online access, physical accompanying book, electronic exam preparation and additional literature. You will receive additional material to deepen your knowledge on the topics and you will be introduced by the IIS to the main areas of the exam in the course of the seminars.

The location of the course will be announced before the course starts.

One exam is included in the course fee.

Exam

The online exam contains of 65 to 85 multiple choice exam questions The allotted time is 2 hours. You need to answer 70% correct to pass the exam. We will register you for the next possible exam date after completing the module unless you arrange for a replacement date. Exams may be repeated once in the same Examination window. However the exam can be repeted only 4 times during a year.

FAQ

Which prerequisites and/or requirements are compulsory for the ARM training?

There are no prerequisites or requirements to a certain specialized level needed for this course. However, due to the course material and the seminars are held in English, your English knowledge must be good (Proficiency level). It is nevertheless recommended to have at least 2 years of training or experience in the insurance industry or the security / health & safety sectors.

What is the recommended study time for this course?

Around 6 to 10 hours per week are recommended for this training (depending on your experience in the fields and previous studies). Prepare yourself to invest 4-6 hours for the prereading and getting familiar with the topics for each chapter (reading the according assignment in the text book (about 30 pages per week). It is also recommended to rework each assignement by doing the excercises in the course guide or reading the extra material shared with the students. Additionally, set aside time to prepare for the exams.

How are the seminars organized and delivered?

The coach reviews the most important parts of the chapter in an engaging style, introduces to on the job practices in different contexts and challenges the students with small group work, discussions and tasks. 

What requirements are needed to achieve the ARM diploma?

The only requirement for an ARM diploma is to succeed in the 3 written exams of ARM 400, 401 and 402 and to fulfil the Ethical Online Training and Exam. There are no oral exams and no reports to be written.

How are the examinations arranged? Can they be repeated?  

They are provided by The Institutes and organized by the IIS. The ARM exams consist of 65-85 questions (multiple choice) and last 2 hours each. There are 4 Examination windows of 2 months each offered per year. The examinations may be repeated.
